zoning commission
UPDATE - 5/4/2013
Presently the Rochester Zoning Commission is in the process of reviewing and updating the Township's Land Use Plan. The purpose of this plan is to provide a guide for the development of regulatory decisions that will determine the future character of the township. Such decisions may involve the proper location and nature of development, the preservation of the rural characater of the community, the need for public facilities and infrastructure, and the protection of certain scenic, environmental, and historic resources.
Following the update to the Land Use Plan, the Zoning Commission intends to revisit the need for a zoned commercial business district. In light of the current issues in our neighboring townships, the Commission feels that our current zoning needs must be looked at and re-evaluated. We will be holding work sessions and public meetings over the course of several months. Information pertinent to these meetings will be posted on the Township's website and placed in local papers.

Membership of the Township Zoning Commission consists of five members who reside in the unincorporated areas of the township who are appointed to serve by the Township Board of Trustees. The terms of office require that one member shall expire each year. The Township Board of Trustees fills vacancies for an unexpired term. Each member (regular or alternate) serves until a successor is appointed and qualified.
Processing changes to the Zoning Resolution and associated map are generally the responsibility of the Township Zoning Commission. Whether changes are initiated by the Trustees, the Commission itself, or through a petition of property owners or lessees of the property, the Township Zoning Commission is required to conduct a public hearing and recommend changes to the Township Board of Trustees.
